Recover Chains of Shadows from Valdris in the Twisted Haunt and read it. Reach 60% Alchemy, then return to Ilrune Fawraek in Alaenanore, in the Twilight Forest.

Valdris's Chains of Shadows records captivity, torment, and the destruction of a self beneath another will. Seek Valdris in the Twisted Haunt, recover the book, and read his account rather than treating it as a trophy. Its memories concern the Vault, but the witness is found elsewhere. Refine your alchemy before returning; the next preparation demands care. We must distinguish a body afflicted by sickness from a person deliberately made into a weapon.
